SCOUTS SECTION

Watsonia Scout Group Scouts Section Group Photo

Scouts are aged 11-14 and meet on Thursday night between 7pm to 9pm.

At Watsonia our Scouts remain very active participating in weekly nights and annual activities. The nights can involve science, visiting life saving clubs and fire brigades, bike rides, construction, cooking, orienteering, sports and more!

Scout Hike: Scouts from all over Victoria form teams and hike in Gembrook park completing activities run by older sections. The Scouts are provided with a map and have to navigate their way to and from these activities. These activities could be first aid, initiative, leadership and more! Patrols are assessed at each Activity as a team in four aspects: “Leadership”, “Planning”, “Attitude and Enthusiasm” and “Overall Achievement”

Stradbroke Cup: A camp over Easter weekend involving Scouts from all over Victoria. On this camp Scouts organise all of their food, sleeping shelter requirements and safety requirements as they get tested on how effectively they can set up their camp base and how they work as a patrol. It promotes great teamwork and problem solving skills.

Cohen Shield: On this camp Scouts from all over Victoria are tested on their ability to work effectively together to complete activities with enjoyment and efficiency. Activities can include construction and ‘challenge valley’ (combat course). This camp promotes teamwork, leadership, problem solving and good sportsmanship. Patrols qualifying in each of the five activities become co-holders of the Cohen Shield. Most venues offer Cohen Shield as a weekend event, where Patrols have the chance to participate in a range of other fun events in addition to the main Cohen activities.

Bay Jam: Bay Jam is a week-long camp based at Bay Park Mt Martha Jam-Packed with Activities! Off-site activities include the beach, wide games, hiking and geocaching. On-Site Activities include a disco, evening entertainment, Gang Show and more!

Australian Jamboree: What do you get when you put 12,000 boys and girls from all over Australia and beyond into one giant tent city? A whole lot of fun at the Australian Scout Jamboree! It’s a national camp-out with 10 days of activities, visits from younger Scout sections, and day trips away from the Jamboree site. The Australian Jamboree is held every three years.

Other camps are the Watsonia Group camp and any other camps organised by patrols such as hikes, camps, and development courses.

The highest badge for the Scout section is the Scout Medallion which is achieved through the Scout developing and displaying leadership, initiative and organisational skills. They can build upon these skills with activities and camps, along with the organisation and completion of hikes and other events.
